Apple<\/a> used WWDC 2026 to introduce far more than another iOS update. The company is weaving artificial intelligence through almost every layer of its ecosystem, from Siri and Safari to Photos, Messages, passwords, home cameras and the tools used to build apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcements also include stronger parental controls, performance improvements and refinements to the Liquid Glass interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is an ambitious reset, but access will not be equal for every Canadian user. Device generation, language settings and even an iCloud+ subscription may determine which features are available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siri AI replaces the old Siri<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The centrepiece is Siri AI, a rebuilt version of Apple\u2019s assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siri will be able to maintain longer conversations, answer follow-up questions and retrieve current information from the web. It can also understand what is displayed onscreen and use a person\u2019s private context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A user could ask Siri to find a restaurant recommendation received in Messages, retrieve a reservation number from an old email or locate photos from a particular trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siri can then take action across compatible apps, such as drafting an email, editing photos, creating a calendar event or adding information to Notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple is also launching a dedicated Siri app. Conversation history will sync privately through iCloud, allowing someone to begin a conversation on a Mac and continue it on an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or Vision Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple Intelligence expands into everyday apps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple Intelligence is moving beyond summaries and basic writing assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Photos, Spatial Reframing will allow users to alter the apparent perspective of an image after it was captured. Extend can enlarge an image and generate missing areas, while Clean Up promises more realistic object removal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI-generated and AI-edited images will contain an invisible SynthID watermark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safari will automatically organize groups of tabs by topic. A new Notify Me feature can monitor a webpage and alert the user when a price drops, an item returns to stock or other selected information changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple also plans to let users create small Safari extensions by describing what they want the extension to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Passwords app can use Apple Intelligence to navigate a website and replace a weak or compromised password with a stronger one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Messages and Mail will offer actions based on the context of a conversation. Siri can also adjust a draft to match the way a user normally communicates with a specific recipient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortcuts and connected homes become more intelligent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Describe a Shortcut will build an automation from a natural-language request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A user could ask the system to set an alarm based on the next morning\u2019s first calendar event, open a group of productivity apps when an iPad is attached to a keyboard or turn on outdoor lights when a food delivery is approaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Home app, Apple Intelligence can combine related alerts into a single evolving notification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compatible HomeKit cameras can generate descriptions of recorded events and allow users to search their video history using natural language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some camera intelligence features will be included with compatible iCloud+ plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple confirms a Google Gemini collaboration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple says its next-generation Foundation Models were developed in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simpler requests can be processed directly on the device. More demanding tasks can be sent to Apple\u2019s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple says data used to process a request is not stored or made available to the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some server-powered features, including image generation, will have daily usage limits. Most iCloud+ subscriptions will provide increased access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That means Apple Intelligence is beginning to resemble a tiered service, even though Apple has not introduced a separate AI subscription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xcode 27 brings coding agents into development<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple is also changing how its applications are built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside Xcode 27, developers can work with coding agents capable of planning a task, editing a project, running tests, examining previews and interacting with simulated devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xcode can connect with models and agents from providers including Apple, Anthropic, Google and OpenAI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Core AI framework is designed to run custom models locally on Apple silicon. The Foundation Models framework can connect to Apple\u2019s on-device models, Private Cloud Compute and compatible third-party providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Developers enrolled in the App Store Small Business Program with fewer than two million first-time downloads can access Apple\u2019s Private Cloud Compute models without paying cloud API fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For games, Game Porting Toolkit 4 introduces AI agent skills and Metal development guidance. A Steam Asset Converter will help developers prepare PC game assets for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Vision Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple expands its parental controls<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple is introducing several tools designed to help families manage device use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ask to Browse will require a child to request permission before visiting a new website in Safari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents can also require approval before a child communicates with a new contact through Messages, FaceTime or the Phone app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Communication Safety, which can already blur nudity, will also intervene when graphic or violent images and videos are detected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time Allowances will let parents set an overall limit for categories such as games, social media and entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Families can create different schedules for school hours, evenings and weekends. A redesigned Screen Time dashboard will display average usage and the child\u2019s most frequently used apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

iOS 27 also promises faster performance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple says apps may launch up to 30 percent faster with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photos may appear up to 70 percent faster after being taken, while AirDrop transfers could be up to 80 percent faster under certain conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browsing and transferring files between an iPad and an external drive could be up to five times faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These results come from Apple\u2019s internal testing, and real-world performance will depend on the device, configuration and usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liquid Glass remains Apple\u2019s main visual language, but users will gain a slider for adjusting its transparency from extremely clear to heavily tinted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which devices will be supported in Canada?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The broader Apple Intelligence system will require one of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any iPhone 16 model or newer<\/p>\n\n\n\n

iPad mini with A17 Pro<\/p>\n\n\n\n

iPad with an M1 chip or newer<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mac with an M1 chip or newer<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple Vision Pro<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some advanced on-device functions, including Siri\u2019s more expressive voices and improved dictation, will require newer hardware and additional memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Developer betas became available on June 8, 2026. Apple plans to release a public beta in July, followed by the final software updates in the fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple Intelligence supports French, but Siri AI will initially launch as a beta on devices set to English. Several additional tools, including Call Context and some Mail and Messages suggestions, will also begin in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Canadian users should take away<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple is not simply adding a chatbot to the iPhone. It is trying to turn its entire operating system into a platform that can understand context, take action inside apps and anticipate common tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That deeper integration could make AI significantly more useful, but it also creates a new dividing line between supported devices, English and French availability, and users willing to pay for additional cloud capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before replacing an iPhone primarily for AI features, Canadians should check exactly which tools will work on their device and in their preferred language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
