The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold was among the devices shown during our visit to Google\u2019s Montreal office. This new foldable immediately surprised us with its weight and large outer display. Our hands-on session lasted only a few minutes. Therefore, a complete review will be necessary before reaching a final verdict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Feels Surprisingly Light<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold<\/a> weighs 239 grams. That is still heavier than a traditional smartphone. However, it weighs only about 12 grams more than the Pixel 11 Pro XL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the hand, that difference is difficult to notice. The new Fold therefore feels remarkably light for a foldable device. Its weight also seems well distributed when the phone is closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google says the phone is nearly 10% lighter than the previous generation. In addition, it measures 10.1 mm thick when closed. Once unfolded, each half measures only 5 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The numbers are impressive, but the feeling in the hand matters even more. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold does not feel like a small tablet in your pocket. Instead, it feels like a large smartphone that can double its display area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Outer Display That Feels Like a Regular Pixel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 6.5-inch outer Super Actua display has a variable refresh rate between 1 and 120Hz. Its peak brightness can also reach 3,600 nits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More importantly, the outer screen is large enough for normal everyday use. It does not feel like a secondary display added out of necessity. Instead, its proportions resemble those of a traditional Pixel smartphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without a direct side-by-side comparison, we must remain cautious. However, the screen appeared less narrow than the one on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra we recently tested. Its proportions seem closer to those of the standard Galaxy Z Fold8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once opened, the phone reveals an 8-inch Super Actua Flex display. This inner screen also operates between 1 and 120Hz. It stretches across both halves and almost feels like two displays placed side by side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google says both displays are 20% brighter than the previous generation. During our short demonstration, the screens appeared bright and pleasant. However, we still need to test outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A More Refined Build with Two Subtle Colours<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Google redesigned the hinge with several metal alloys. It also uses a reinforced aerospace-grade aluminum cover. During our hands-on session, the hinge felt smooth and firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The phone could remain partially open without closing by itself. This position enables Tabletop mode. Users can watch videos or take photos without holding the device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google claims this generation is three times more durable than its predecessor. The phone also carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. However, these promises can only be evaluated over a much longer period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The back uses a soft-touch matte composite finish. Meanwhile, the new camera module features a distinctive double-pill design. This design also helps the folded phone remain more stable on a flat surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two understated colours will be available: Olive and Obsidian. Both options match the restrained style of the other Pixel 11 Pro models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cameras Designed Around the Foldable Format<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has three rear cameras. It combines a 48MP main sensor with a 10.5MP ultrawide. A 10.8MP telephoto camera also provides 5x optical zoom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Super Zoom can reach up to 30x. In addition, Google claims the main sensor captures 56% more light. The phone should therefore produce better results in darker environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the Fold\u2019s photographic appeal does not come from its sensors alone. The folding design allows the two screens to work together. With Dual Screen Preview, subjects can see their framing on the outer display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made You Look displays animations that can attract a child\u2019s attention. In addition, users can unfold the phone and take selfies with the rear camera. The outer screen then becomes a viewfinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magic Capture is also available on the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. This feature can create several photos from one short sequence. It was one of the most convincing demonstrations during our Pixel 11 presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An 8-Inch Display Built for Multitasking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 8-inch inner display can show two applications side by side. For example, users can view a map while organizing their calendar. They can also drag images, text or links between compatible applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google has also added floating bubbles. These bubbles keep selected applications accessible without interrupting the current task. Up to five compatible applications can be turned into bubbles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold uses the Tensor G6 processor and 16GB of RAM. It will be available with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage, depending on the market. This configuration should be suitable for multitasking, gaming and streaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gemini can also use the large display to provide contextual information. However, some features will depend on the country, language and supported applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The phone launches with Android 17. Moreover, Google promises seven years of Android, security and Pixel Drop updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Canadian Price That Could Exceed $2,600<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the United States, the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold starts at US$1,899. A direct currency conversion equals approximately CA$2,644 before taxes. However, Google does not always apply the daily exchange rate directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We therefore estimate a Canadian price between CA$2,500 and CA$2,900 (depending of the memory 256GB, 516GB or 1TB). This estimate should be replaced once Google Canada confirms the official price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Promising but Limited First Impression<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has a 4,750mAh battery. Google claims more than 24 hours of battery life. A wired charge of about 30 minutes could recover up to 50% of the battery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The phone also supports Pixelsnap magnetic wireless charging. Charging speeds can reach 25W with a compatible Qi2.2 charger. Finally, eligible Canadian buyers will receive six months of Google AI Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our first impression is positive. The relatively low weight and large outer display make the Fold less intimidating than expected. When closed, it genuinely feels like a smartphone that can be used every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, a few minutes cannot reveal the full experience of a foldable phone. We still need to test the hinge, centre crease, cameras and battery life. Comfort after several hours will also be important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
