The men’s ice hockey gold medal game of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics takes place this Sunday morning. Although Canada clawed its way into the final, a titanic North American showdown looms against a heavily United States squad. Here is the puck drop time and an overview of the NHL-stacked rosters ready to clash.

The American Juggernaut Built Around Matthews

Team USA’s lineup is terrifyingly efficient and looks tailor-made to capture gold. Built around sharpshooter Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs) and flanked by assistants Charlie McAvoy (Boston Bruins) and Matthew Tkachuk (Florida Panthers), the American squad is dominant on paper. The group is overflowing with elite talent, including Jack Eichel (Vegas Golden Knights), Jack Hughes (New Jersey Devils), Quinn Hughes (Minnesota Wild), and a veritable brick wall in net featuring Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg Jets) and Jake Oettinger (Dallas Stars). It’s a winning machine that Canada will severely struggle to contain.

Canada Qualified, but Vulnerable Without Crosby

The Canadian squad secured its pass thanks to a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Finland, propelled by goals from Sam Reinhart, Shea Theodore, and Nathan MacKinnon. The team, however, had to deal with the absence of its usual captain, Sidney Crosby, who was injured during the quarterfinals. To compensate for this absence, Connor McDavid proudly wore the “C” on his jersey during this game. The next generation is assured with Celebrini and the Canadiens’ captain, Suzuki.
