It’s news that’s sure to make movie and series lovers wince. Disney+ is raising its prices in Canada, and the bill is about to get heavier for millions of subscribers. The Standard plan, the most popular one, jumps from $12.99 to $15.99 per month. Even the Premium plan isn’t spared, now priced at $16.99 monthly.
Only the ad-supported option remains unchanged at $8.99, an alternative that may suddenly seem much more appealing. This move comes at a time when Canadians are increasingly scrutinizing their entertainment expenses, faced with inflation and the growing number of streaming services.
When will the price increase take effect?
The change won’t happen all at once. Monthly subscribers will see the difference on their bill starting November 4, while those with annual subscriptions get a bit more time, until November 25.
This increase, the second in less than a year, is part of Disney’s global strategy. The company justifies the new prices by the integration of Hulu, although the content offered remains largely similar to what was already available. It’s an explanation that may not be enough to ease the frustration of subscribers already facing a rising cost of living.
