Freedom Mobile has just adjusted its lineup of annual prepaid plans, introducing 5G+ connectivity while increasing certain rates. A strategy that combines technological modernization with revenue optimization.
Increases offset by more data
The entry-level plan remains stable at $99 per year but now comes with 5G instead of LTE. It still includes unlimited incoming calls and texts, with outgoing texts billed at $0.05 each and additional data at $15 per GB.
The two other plans undergo a $10 annual increase, but Freedom tries to soften the blow with more generous data allowances. The mid-tier plan rises from $119 to $129 per year, now offering 20GB instead of 15. The premium plan climbs from $149 to $159 annually, with its data allotment doubling from 30GB to 40GB.
A double-edged price-value equation
This restructuring clearly reflects the classic strategy of providers: raising prices while adding a little extra to make it easier to accept. The additional 10GB per plan will certainly appeal to heavy data users, but does everyone really need it?
And then, the arrival of 5G+ comes as no surprise: it’s only logical now that this technology is becoming the norm.
