The traditional Boxing Day rush in the telecom sector is arriving earlier than usual this year. Freedom Mobile has officially launched its 2025 promotional offers as early as mid-December, intensifying seasonal competition and setting a new aggressive benchmark for the market.

Its flagship plan, aimed at customers bringing their own device (Bring Your Own Phone), offers 70 GB of 5G data usable across Canada, the United States, and Mexico for $39 per month. This price already includes digital discounts and temporary credits, making comparisons easier for consumers.

An offensive strategy to shake up the market

This early move is no coincidence. It comes at a time when several carriers, including major players, have been quietly testing targeted offers around the $35 mark. By making a $39 plan with continental coverage publicly available, Freedom Mobile is putting pressure on its competitors and positioning the $30–$40 range as the new battleground for high-data mobile plans.

The company has also unveiled two additional options:

A $40 per month plan with 100 GB of data valid across North America.

A “Roam Beyond” option at $60 per month covering more than 100 countries.

What this means for consumers

This early rollout and aggressive pricing are a clear win for customers. They signal intense competition during the holiday season, a period that typically delivers the best deals of the year. For consumers, the strategy is straightforward: compare offers and possibly wait a few days to see whether other carriers respond by matching or surpassing these plans.

Freedom Mobile’s initiative confirms a broader trend. The battle for Canadian consumers is no longer focused solely on data volume, but increasingly on where that data can be used, with North America becoming the new baseline. This dynamic is likely to shape the market in the months ahead.
