In six months, Apple is expected to officially unveil its next generation of iPhones, and rumors are already swirling around the upcoming iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Ultra models. With talk of upgraded displays, bold new designs, and strategic trade-offs, here’s what Cupertino might have in store for its users.

Find the plan that fits your needs and your budget!

iPhone 17: Entry-Level Model Gets a Taste of Pro Technology

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 is expected to keep the overall design of the iPhone 16 but bring a fresh touch with a broader selection of colors: purple, green, orange, blue, white, and black. The display will grow slightly to 6.3 inches, offer brighter visuals with 1,300 nits, and — for the first time in a non-Pro model — include ProMotion technology for a 120Hz refresh rate. This means smoother scrolling and the addition of an Always On Display, showing key info like the time or notifications without lighting up the whole screen.

Inside, the new A19 chip is set to improve both performance and battery life, with up to 10% better energy efficiency and a 5% performance boost over last year’s A18. Apple is also working on its own custom Wi-Fi modem, similar to the C1 chip used for cellular connectivity in the iPhone 16, delivering a more stable and energy-efficient wireless experience.

On the camera front, the back system remains unchanged, but the front camera gets a notable upgrade — jumping from 12 MP to 24 MP for sharper, more detailed selfies. Despite these improvements, the price is expected to remain steady at $799.

When will the iPhone 17 be unveiled?

If Apple sticks to its usual schedule, the iPhone 17 is expected to be officially revealed in mid-September 2025. Sales would likely begin in late September or early October, following the pattern of previous launches (iPhone 16 in September 2024, iPhone 15 in 2023, and so on). As always, Apple is expected to send out teaser invites just a few weeks before the event. So hang tight — the wait may be long, but it’s bound to be a key moment for Apple fans.

iPhone 17 Air: The Bold Bet on Ultra-Thin Design

Apple is reportedly dropping the “Plus” branding in favor of a new iPhone 17 Air, aiming to reignite interest in larger displays with a sleek and refined approach. With a record-breaking thickness of just 5.5 mm—20% thinner than the iPhone 6—this model would make a few notable trade-offs:

  • No bottom speaker: Audio would come solely from the earpiece, reducing overall volume and eliminating stereo sound.

  • Single 48 MP camera: The ultra-wide lens would be removed, replaced by a cropped 2x optical zoom instead.

  • Slightly smaller screen: At 6.6 inches, it’s just under the 6.7-inch display of the iPhone 16 Plus, a change reportedly made to prevent structural fragility.

Despite these compromises, the iPhone 17 Air would still offer ProMotion display tech, reinforced anti-reflective glass (like the standard iPhone 17), and be powered by the A19 chip along with Apple’s C1 modem. It would also keep MagSafe and the dedicated camera button, with pricing expected to stay at $899.

With the Launch of the iPhone 17, a Deal You Don’t Want to Miss

The upcoming release of the iPhone 17 signals a price drop for previous models, such as the iPhone 16, 15, and even the 14—making it the perfect opportunity to get a high-performance Apple smartphone at a lower cost.

iPhone 17 Pro: A Return to Aluminum and Technical Innovations

The Pro versions of the iPhone will bring a material shift, with aluminum replacing titanium, which has been absent from flagship models since the iPhone 7 (2016). While some may see this as a downgrade, it comes with a larger aluminum camera module (inspired by the iPad Pro), featuring a glass surface that enables wireless charging.

Other key upgrades include:

  • 7.5W reverse charging, allowing you to power devices like AirPods or the Apple Watch.

  • A new A19 Pro chip (built on TSMC’s N3P process) with 12 GB of RAM (up from 8 GB), enhancing multitasking capabilities.

  • A more efficient and lightweight vapor chamber cooling system, replacing traditional heat sinks.

The display will remain at 6.3 inches, retaining the Dynamic Island feature, while the front camera jumps to 24 MP. The available colors will include teal, dark green, white, and black, with the price staying at $999.

iPhone 17 Ultra: The Ultimate Camera Device

Replacing the Pro Max model, the iPhone 17 Ultra will combine the latest technological advancements:

  • A 6.9-inch display with a reduced Dynamic Island, thanks to a metalens for Face ID.

  • A 48 MP triple camera system, including a brand-new telephoto lens and a mechanical adjustable shutter, allowing for natural background blur (unlike the current software-based Portrait Mode).

  • A 5,000 mAh battery, offering 40 hours of video playback, setting a new battery life record for an iPhone.

Like the iPhone 17 Pro, the Ultra will feature aluminum, reverse charging, and vapor chamber cooling. The starting price will be $1,199, matching the current iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Apple’s Strategy: A Targeted Range for Every Need

With the iPhone 17 Air (minimalist design), the Pro (technical efficiency), and the Ultra (high-performance photography), Apple is diversifying its lineup to appeal to distinct audiences. This bold segmentation strengthens its premium positioning while exploring new niches, confirming its ability to innovate without sacrificing its core identity. The final answer will come this fall.
