Apple seems ready to take a long-awaited step. According to the latest rumors, the iPhone 17 Pro may support reverse wireless charging, allowing users to power AirPods and the Apple Watch directly, without extra cables.
A Feature tested internally
Leaker Fixed Focus Digital, active on Weibo, claims Apple is currently testing this technology. Instant Digital, another source on the platform, suggests reverse charging would operate at 7.5W. This is enough to recharge small Apple accessories and potentially a refreshed MagSafe Battery Pack in the future.
This rumor continues speculation circulating since 2023, when Apple was reportedly working on a full reverse charging system that never appeared on previous models.
An expanding ecosystem
Currently, iPhone 15 and newer models already support reverse charging via USB-C, delivering up to 4.5W to accessories compatible with Power Delivery. The new addition would be wireless support, removing the need to carry a cable for a quick AirPods or Apple Watch boost.
This change might also coincide with the return of the MagSafe Battery Pack, discontinued in 2023 with the iPhone 15 launch. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman hints at its possible comeback with a USB-C port but advises caution regarding timing.
Caution About Release
Even with internal testing, there is no guarantee the feature will make it to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max expected next month. Apple often develops and tests technologies for years before release or sometimes abandons them completely.
Still, reverse wireless charging would be a convenient addition to Apple’s ecosystem, making daily use of the brand’s wireless accessories even easier.
