A hardware issue taken seriously
For the past few weeks, users have been reporting unusual behavior with their phones: vertical colored lines stretching across the entire display or random screen flickering. After an internal investigation, Google confirmed that this is a hardware issue rather than a simple software glitch.
Instead of leaving customers to deal with it on their own, the company has added the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and even the Pixel Fold to its extended repair program. In short, if your device is affected, the screen replacement will be done free of charge.
Not everyone is affected
However, this offer doesn’t apply to every situation. Google specifies that only devices affected by the confirmed manufacturing defect are eligible.
A cracked screen, liquid damage, or poorly installed protection won’t be covered. There’s another condition as well: the phone must have been purchased less than three years ago.
To get your Pixel repaired, you simply need to schedule an appointment at an authorized service center or use the online repair service. Google says repairs will be handled quickly.
The Pixel Fold under close watch
While the issue mainly affects the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL models, Google has also included the Pixel Fold in the program, without offering further details. It’s still unclear whether the foldable phone is facing a similar problem, but its inclusion certainly raises questions.
