On Reddit and in their emails, several Rogers customers have noticed an unexpected increase in their mobile bills, around four to five dollars. And it seems they’re not the only ones.

Customers caught off guard

One user reached out to several Canadian media outlets to report the increase, which was quickly confirmed by numerous online accounts. Some subscribers say they discovered the unpleasant surprise on their December bill, with no clear prior notice from the carrier.

According to discussions spotted on Reddit, the price hike appears to affect various mobile plans with no obvious distinction. This has led to confusion and frustration among customers who thought they were paying a fixed monthly rate.

A price hike already underway?

A practice that’s becoming common

Quiet price increases on mobile plans have become common in Canada, often justified by providers as necessary to support 5G network investments or improve customer service. But at a time when telecom prices are already seen as too high, every extra dollar feels hard to accept.

It remains to be seen whether Rogers will offer clearer communication in the coming days, as the surprise has left many of its customers with a bitter taste.
