Rogers has just launched Rogers Satellite, a groundbreaking service designed to eliminate dead zones across Canada. Unveiled exactly 40 years after the country’s first wireless call, this new offering extends mobile coverage to 5.4 million square kilometres—more than twice the area covered by any other national provider. It marks a major technological leap in a country where 82% of the landmass remains beyond the reach of traditional cellular networks.
How does Rogers Satellite work?
Thanks to a constellation of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, compatible smartphones automatically switch to the satellite network whenever the cellular signal drops. Whether you’re hiking in the Rockies, driving along a remote road in Northern Ontario, or fishing on Hudson Bay, emergency calls and texts remain within reach. While Rogers has not disclosed its partners, industry sources confirm collaborations with Starlink (SpaceX), Lynk Global, and Telesat.
No external antenna is required—the service connects directly to 4G/5G devices using Rogers’ existing wireless spectrum.

During the beta phase (July–October 2025), all Canadians—whether Rogers customers or not—can send SMS messages, access 911 via text, and use 500 MB of data (text messages only) free of charge. After this period:
The service will be included at no extra cost in the premium “Rogers Ultimate” plan ($85/month).
Other users will pay $15/month, with a $5/month introductory discount for one year for beta testers.
By 2026, Rogers plans to add voice calling, mobile data, and app compatibility—pushing beyond the current limitations.
Which phones are compatible?
According to official sources, the satellite service is compatible with most recent smartphones, under strict conditions:
iPhone: 14/15/16 (all carriers), 13 (Rogers customers only).
Samsung: Galaxy S25/S25+/S25 Ultra.
Motorola: Razr+/Razr Ultra 2024-2025, Edge 2025.

National Connectivity: Towards a 100% Connected Canada
With 12 million Canadians living in underserved areas, this satellite service positions the country as a future global model for digital inclusion. The beta phase, running through October 2025, will reveal whether the technology lives up to its promises. If it does, the dream of full national coverage will become a reality.
