Rogers will “shut down” its 3G network on July 31, 2025. The immediate consequence: hundreds of phone models — even some recent ones — will lose all services (calls, texts, data, emergency access). This disruption will primarily affect users of brands like Asus, Sony, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Nubia.
Technical cause of the disruption
The main reason for this incompatibility lies in Rogers’ VoLTE system (voice calls over 4G/5G). The provider requires devices to be specifically approved for its network through a technical whitelist based on IMEI numbers. As a result, phones purchased abroad, from competitors, or not sold by Rogers — even if theoretically compatible — will be blocked. No corrective update is planned for these models.
Heavily affected brands
Rogers data reveals alarming incompatibility rates for certain brands. Sony tops the list with 54% of its models blocked, including recent Xperia devices like the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 IV. Asus follows with a 47% incompatibility rate, affecting Zenfone (10, 11) and ROG Phone (7, 8, 9). Xiaomi/Redmi (38%) and OnePlus (35%) are also impacted, with devices such as the Redmi Note 13 5G and other Note series models.
Examples of phone models that will no longer work on the Rogers network
Among the phones declared “incompatible” by Rogers are flagship models:
Brand | Key affected models |
SONY | Xperia 1 III/IV/V • Xperia 5 III/IV/V • Xperia PRO-I • Xperia 10 III |
ASUS | Zenfone 8→11 • ROG Phone 5→9 (all versions) |
XIAOMI | Redmi Note 12/13 (4G/5G) • Xiaomi 11/12 • Poco F4/F5 |
ONEPLUS | Nord N30/N300 • CE 2 Lite/3 Lite • Global models |
NUBIA | Red Magic 7→9 • Z50 Ultra • Z60 Flip |
✅ Check YOUR device:
- Enter your IMEI (*#06#) on the official Rogers site
- Consult the full IMEI list
Solutions for users impacted
If your device is incompatible, act quickly:
- Contact Rogers customer service (1-855-381-3934) to confirm the status of your IMEI.
- Replace your phone before the deadline, preferably with models sold directly by Rogers (iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel).
- Avoid purchasing abroad or from unauthorized platforms, as these devices may not be VoLTE certified by Rogers.
Important warning
Phones that are 3G-only (without 4G/VoLTE capabilities) will all stop working, regardless of brand. Additionally, even a recent 5G phone can be blocked if it is not explicitly approved by Rogers for VoLTE.
