Summary

Despite the continuous success of the iPhone 12, fans are already eagerly awaiting its successor, the iPhone 13. Apple has millions of users and dedicated fans, many of which cannot wait to get their hands on the latest device. As such, it is very common for rumours and leaks to surface months before an official announcement from Apple. To make things simpler, we decided to put together every rumour about the newest iPhone in an organized manner for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

iPhone 13 Rumours – The Basics

First and foremost, when can we expect the iPhone 13 to be released? Most iPhone 13 rumours and forums believe it will come out in September 2021. Historically, Apple has often announced new iPhones on the first or second Tuesday of September. If this pattern continues into 2021, it will be announced on either September 7 or 14 and publicly released ten days later.

In addition, leaks have pointed towards some of the iPhone 13’s basic specs and expectations. A reporter from Bloomberg wrote in a newsletter that the announcement event will be entirely virtual, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in America. Much like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 13 will be offered in four models: iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Further, an anonymous leaker recently posted that the model will be offered in a new bronze, “Sunset Gold” colour.

The Specs

The iPhone 13 is expected to be Apple’s most powerful phone yet, and a notable improvement from the iPhone 12. The camera is expected to see a significant upgrade  into a 6-element ultra-wide lens. Additionally, the selfie camera notch at the top of the phone is rumoured to shrink, allowing for a larger screen. In regards to the battery, a leak from a Chinese social media site posted that the iPhone 13 will have a larger battery capacity, and potentially a larger battery life depending on software upgrades.

Lastly, charging could see an important change. Some of the latest iPhone 13 rumours have pointed towards wireless charging using MagSafe technology. Leaked reports have suggested that the new model may be offered with a coiled MagSafe charger on the back of the phone, which could be used to charge AirPods or another iPhone wirelessly by placing them on the back of the phone.

iPhone Leaks & Wishful Thinking

Finally, we want to cover the most exciting iPhone leaks. If these rumours prove to be true, it could mean great news for Apple users worldwide. A few leaks suggested that the maximum storage offered for the newest iPhone model would be 1TB. This would be a huge improvement from the iPhone 12’s max storage of 512G, and make Apple a fierce competitor for the next generation of smartphones.

Another anonymous leak pointed towards a port-less design for all iPhone 13s. Instead of having a charging port, the iPhone 13 would have no ports whatsoever, and rely entirely on wireless charging. While this would undoubtedly be very cool, we find it unlikely that such a design would be introduced unless Apple’s wireless charging was just as fast (if not faster) than wired charging.

Finally, several rumours have surfaced about the return of Touch ID. Since the introduction of the iPhone X, users have only had the option to use Face ID to unlock their phones without inputting their PIN number. Customers showed mixed reactions, and wondered if Apple would ever re-introduce the option to use Touch ID. It seemed unlikely, as newer models of iPhone removed the home button. However, an Apple analyst disclosed in 2021 that Apple is working on re-introducing Touch ID by adding a small fingerprint scanner underneath the phone’s display. The choice to choose between Face ID and Touch ID would be great news for Apple customers, especially since Face ID doesn’t work when users wear face masks.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, these rumours are just rumours, and should be treated as such. As much as we want to get excited about the iPhone 13, we also don’t want to overhype a product with tons of features that it won’t include. Either way, everyone will know about all of its exciting new features in due time. We hope you enjoyed this journey of speculation with us!
