Summary

On September 14 2021, Apple hosted their highly anticipated California Streaming event. As everyone expected, they unveiled the brand new iPhone 13, which releases later this month. While the new iPhone obviously garnered the most attention, Apple made more exciting announcements for Apple Watch and iPad users. In this article, we’ll go over the main takeaways from the recent event, with an emphasis on the new iPhone 13.

Apple Watch Series 7

Available later this Fall, the Apple Watch Series 7 will undoubtedly be the strongest Apple Watch yet. First of all, the new watch will boast Apple’s largest and brightest display yet. Additionally, the retina display never turns off. You no longer need to lift your wrist to illuminate the screen and see the time. The smoother, wider and 70% brighter design will make texting and scrolling much easier than the Series 6. Finally, the new Apple Watch can charge up to 33% faster than its predecessor.

On top of several hardware and software upgrades, the Apple Watch Series 7 will also introduce some brand new features. Most notably, its durability. Its strongest screen yet is highly crack and dust resistant, allowing for a continuously elegant display. In addition, its WR50 water resistant rating makes it completely swimproof. On top of these features, the new Apple Watch contains some intriguing health features. Users can measure their blood oxygen levels or conduct an ECG at any time from their wrists. Overall, these significant upgrades and features make the Apple Watch Series 7 one of the most anticipated smartwatches of the past few years.

iPad

During the California Streaming event, Apple unveiled two brand new iPad models: The iPad 9 and the iPad Mini 6. The iPad 9 has an identical design and display to its predecessor, the iPad 8 from 2020. However, the new iPad will introduce the new A13 Bionic chip, which allows for 20% faster performance. The battery life is expected to last around 10 hours of usage. Finally, the most notable improvements come from the iPad 9’s front-facing camera. With the introduction of Center Stage, the 12MP selfie camera will follow you as you move. This improvement will allow for dynamic videos, as well as adaptive FaceTime calls.

The iPad Mini 6 offers several improvements, and could become one of the most sought after tablets of the year. The latest model offers a completely new look, with a stunning edge-to-edge screen that allows for a more immersive display. With the new A15 Bionic processor, the iPad Mini 6 has a 40% improvement rate when compared to its predecessor. In addition to Center Stage and Apple Pencil 2 support it also boasts 5G functionality. With both these tablets releasing at the end of September 2021, expect a triumphant return of the iPad.

iPhone 13

Of course, the main attraction of the recent event was the brand new iPhone 13. As our collection of iPhone 13 rumours predicted, Apple will release four models: The iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. Overall, the iPhone 13 has a similar design to the 12. Its flat edges and Ceramic Shield glass provide durable protection and aesthetic value. However, Apple announced that the notch at the top has been reduced by 20%, allowing for a more dynamic display. While the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini offer 60Hz refresh rates, the 13 Pro and Pro Max can go as high as 120Hz. This is the fastest refresh rate an iPhone has ever had, which will consistently adapt based on what your screen is displaying.

The iPhone 13 will include a new camera design. The lenses will be displayed diagonally, rather than being stacked on top of each other. In addition to this redesign, the dual or trio 12MP cameras will see some notable improvements. New sensors and lenses allow for improved quality in low lighting and more zoom capabilities. Additionally, ProRes, Photographic Styles and Cinematic Mode lets users take high-quality photos and videos that almost appear professional.

All four iPhone 13 models are compatible with 5G. While the 13 and 13 Mini’s battery should last 30 minutes longer than its predecessors, the 13 Pro and Pro Max will last two and a half hours longer than the previous models. Finally, the new Pro devices also introduce Apple’s first 1TB model iPhone. If you want a smartphone with insanely huge storage, you might want to pick up one of the new iPhone 13 Pro models.

All in all, the upcoming devices from Apple seem promising. They continue to offer noticeable upgrades as well as the introduction of exciting new features to all their devices.
