At the start of August 2021, Google announced that their latest flagship device will release in the Fall of 2021. The new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be the latest smartphones from Google. Fans have been anticipating this moment for over a year, and the first impressions already seem promising. The new design sets it apart from its predecessors, while various features ensure that it will be their strongest device yet. Over the course of this article, we’ll go over everything we know about the new Pixel 6 releasing soon.

The New Google Pixel 6 – The Basics

Although Google hasn’t announced a concrete release date yet, we know it will release before the end of the year. We expect to see them hitting the shelves in late September or early October. Further, while no official price has been announced, leaks have heavily suggested that the new Google Pixel 6 will cost $699 USD (Approx. $880 CAD). As a result, it won’t be surprising if the Pixel 6 Pro costs a little over $1000 CAD.

The most noticeable difference between the Pixel 5 and 6 is its design. The 6 offers a larger screen, with a smaller notch for the front-facing camera at the top of the screen. Additionally, the back of the phone appears vastly different. Previous Pixel devices included a fingerprint scanner on the back, with its cameras placed on top of it along a sleek glass finish. With the Pixel 6, the traditional design has been tossed aside. The round fingerprint scanner is nowhere to be found.

Last but not least, a black bar stretches across the back of the device, with the camera lenses lined up across it. This black bar is the device’s most notable feature, and remains controversial among fans. Will it jut out? Or feel like an awkward bump in our hands? And of course, what happened to the fingerprint scanner? We speculate that the Pixel 6 will instead offer an in-screen fingerprint scanner, but we’ll know for sure in due time!

Specs

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will undoubtedly be Google’s most powerful phones yet. This is largely due to the introduction of Google Tensor, the brand new processor. While previous Pixels used Snapdragon processors, the Pixel 6 will be the first to wield the Tensor. The processor has been in the works for years, and was built specifically for Pixel phones. Early testers have reported that the Tensor offers incredibly fast voice recognition and processing power. These features allow for a significantly better experience with Google Assistant.

Rumours

Since Google has been quiet regarding their new phones, many online leakers and speculators have surfaced. These sources have predicted a lot of information about the upcoming devices’ specs and capabilities. The Pixel 6 is expected to have 8GB of RAM, with either 128G or 256G of internal storage, while the Pro will offer even more. Additionally, the Pro will supposedly boast a 5000 mAh battery, while the Pixel 6’s will be slightly smaller. Lastly, the cameras are supposed to be slightly sharper, with the selfie cameras being able to record in 4K.

The next generation of Pixel will run Android 12, the newest operating system. Android 12 is expected to boast a brand new visual aesthetic, and improve users’ experience with privacy and security. The enhanced operating system is expected to provide new features like One-Handed mode and a revamped Google Translate. Again, we’ll have to wait to see whether or not these speculations are true. However, if the majority of them are, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro could be two of the best smartphone devices on the market upon release.
