Thinking about upgrading your phone, but wondering whether you should buy now or wait a few more months?

Between Apple’s first foldable iPhone, Samsung’s next Galaxy S generation, future Pixel phones, and another wave of foldables, the next year is shaping up to be especially busy.

Here are the main smartphones expected to launch in Canada and North America between late 2026 and the end of 2027.

Some release dates are already official. Others are based on manufacturers’ usual launch cycles and information from generally reliable sources. We have therefore divided them into three categories:

Confirmed: the manufacturer has announced the device or its availability.
Expected: the phone has not been officially announced yet, but several credible reports point in the same direction.
Worth watching: the project has appeared in leaks or early reports, but it is still too soon to consider it likely.

Late 2026: several new phones are still coming before the holidays

iPhone Duo: October 23, 2026

Status: Confirmed for Canada

The biggest smartphone launch of late 2026 may well be the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable phone.

Apple has already confirmed that the device will go on sale in Canada on October 23, 2026, with pre-orders opening on October 16. Canadian pricing starts at $2,999 CAD.

The phone features a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner screen when unfolded. It is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip and runs iOS 27.1.

With the Duo, Apple is entering a category already occupied by Samsung, Google, and Motorola.

Moto G Play 2026: November 13

Status: Confirmed for Canada

Motorola will also continue refreshing its more affordable smartphones before the holiday season.

The Moto G Play 2026 will be available in Canada starting November 13 through Motorola.ca. It features a 6.7-inch 120Hz display and 5G connectivity.

This device is obviously aimed at a very different audience from multi-thousand-dollar foldables: consumers who mainly want a simple, affordable 5G smartphone.

Canada release date: November 13, 2026

Motorola Signature 27: more details coming in November

Status: Confirmed, exact release date still unknown

Motorola is also preparing a more serious return to the high-end North American smartphone market with the Motorola Signature 27.

The device already appears on Motorola’s Canadian website. The company confirms that it will use the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform and says additional details will be revealed in November.

Motorola has also confirmed that this new Signature generation will come to North America, unlike the previous model, which did not receive the same regional launch.

We will still have to wait for Canadian pricing and an exact release date.

Moto G 2026: December 11

Status: Confirmed for Canada

Motorola will close out the year with the Moto G 2026, expected in Canada on December 11.

Motorola also plans to make the device available later through selected Canadian carriers and retailers.

For shoppers looking for an affordable phone during the holiday season, this model could arrive at just the right time.

Smartphones expected in 2027

From this point forward, the calendar becomes less certain.

Samsung, Google, and Apple have obviously not officially announced most of their 2027 smartphones yet.

However, their usual release schedules and several leaks already give us a fairly good idea of what may be coming.

Early 2027: Samsung Galaxy S27

Status: Expected

Samsung is likely to kick off the 2027 Android flagship cycle with its next Galaxy S27 family.

Current reports point to as many as four models:

  • Galaxy S27
  • Galaxy S27+
  • Galaxy S27 Pro
  • Galaxy S27 Ultra

The Pro model could become a new addition to the lineup. Other rumours point to changes involving cameras, batteries, and processors.

Samsung has not yet officially confirmed the lineup.

Estimated release: early 2027
Canada: very likely

Spring 2027: iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e

Status: Expected

Apple’s iPhone release schedule appears to be changing.

While the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max launched in fall 2026, Apple reportedly plans to move its more affordable models to the following spring.

The iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are therefore expected in spring 2027. Some reports also suggest that a second-generation iPhone Air could arrive during the same period.

This strategy would allow Apple to spread its launches across two major windows instead of concentrating almost the entire lineup in September.

Estimated release: spring 2027
Canada: very likely

Spring 2027: Google Pixel 11a

Status: Expected

Google is also expected to refresh its more affordable smartphone with the Pixel 11a.

Early reports point to a spring launch and the possible use of the same Tensor G6 chip found in the more expensive Pixel 11 lineup.

Google has not officially announced the device yet.

Estimated release: spring 2027
Canada: likely

Spring 2027: new Motorola Razr phones

Status: Worth watching

Motorola regularly refreshes its Razr lineup in the spring, making a 2027 Razr generation very plausible.

For now, however, concrete information remains limited. Even publications closely following Motorola acknowledge that very few details about the 2027 generation are currently known.

The number of models and, more importantly, their Canadian availability will still need to be confirmed.

Estimated release: spring 2027
Canada: to be confirmed

Summer 2027: another foldable phone battle

Samsung is expected to refresh its foldable lineup during summer 2027.

One leaked roadmap points to four devices:

  • Galaxy Z Fold 9
  • Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Flip 9
  • Galaxy Z TriFold 2

That would represent an unusually ambitious lineup, with two Fold models, one flip phone, and a device using three display sections.

There is an important caveat: Samsung has not confirmed this lineup, and North American availability for every model is far from guaranteed.

The standard Fold and Flip remain the most likely candidates for a Canadian release.

Estimated release: summer 2027
Canada: likely for some models

August 2027: Google Pixel 12

Status: Expected

After launching the Pixel 11 lineup in August 2026, Google is expected to return roughly one year later with the Pixel 12 family.

Four models are currently expected:

  • Pixel 12
  • Pixel 12 Pro
  • Pixel 12 Pro XL
  • Pixel 12 Pro Fold

Google has previously indicated that development work on its 2027 devices was already underway.

Early reports also mention a new Tensor G7 chip and the possibility of new battery technologies, although those details remain rumours for now.

After three consecutive Pixel flagship launches in August, an August 2027 launch currently looks like the most logical window.

Estimated release: August 2027
Canada: very likely

Fall 2027: the 20th-anniversary iPhone

Status: Expected, official name unknown

2027 will mark 20 years since the original iPhone went on sale in 2007.

Apple is reportedly preparing one of the biggest redesigns of its smartphone since the iPhone X.

Reports point to a device with significantly more glass, a display extending closer to the edges, and fewer visible elements on the front.

Its name remains a mystery.

While the normal numbering sequence would suggest iPhone 19, some reports suggest Apple could use iPhone 20 or another special name to mark the anniversary. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

Estimated release: September 2027
Canada: very likely

A second foldable iPhone in 2027?

Status: Worth watching

Apple is not expected to treat the iPhone Duo as a one-off experiment.

A second-generation foldable iPhone is reportedly already being considered for fall 2027, potentially launching alongside Apple’s anniversary iPhone.

If that schedule holds, Apple could refresh its foldable phone just one year after the first Duo launches.

Estimated release: fall 2027
Canada: to be confirmed

What about OnePlus?

There is one notable absence from this calendar.

OnePlus no longer plans to launch new products in North America.

The company officially announced in July 2026 that it would stop launching new products in North America and Europe. Devices already sold in those regions will continue to receive their scheduled software updates and support.

That means consumers should not expect a future OnePlus 16 or its successors to receive an official Canadian launch unless the company changes strategy again.

Should you upgrade your phone now or wait until 2027?

That depends largely on the phone you already have.

Consumers interested in foldable phones may rarely have had this many options. The iPhone Duo arrives in October 2026, while Samsung, Motorola, Google, and likely Apple will continue refreshing their foldable lineups throughout 2027.

For a traditional high-end Android phone, early 2027 should quickly bring a new Galaxy S generation, while Google’s Pixel 12 lineup is expected several months later.

Apple’s situation is even more unusual. Consumers who do not want a Pro model or the very expensive iPhone Duo may want to see what happens in spring 2027 with the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.

And for anyone able to keep their current phone for another full year, fall 2027 could be especially interesting, with the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, a new Pixel generation already on the market, and several new foldable phones competing for attention.

One thing seems clear: 2027 should not be short on new smartphones.

Dates and specifications for unannounced devices may change. This article will be updated as manufacturers make their official announcements.
