Samsung positioned the Galaxy S5 as a mainstream flagship with a practical streak, and that character still defines it. Its 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display delivers a sharp Full HD image in a compact body that measures 142.0 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm and weighs 145 g, while the textured back cover helps it feel more secure in hand. The phone launched with Android 4.4.2 and a 2.5 GHz quad-core processor, paired with 2 GB of RAM and either 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage, plus a microSD slot that supports cards up to 128 GB. Photography is handled by a 16 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front camera, with UHD 4K recording at 30 fps and 1080p recording at up to 60 fps. Samsung also built in features that were distinctive for the time, including IP67 dust and water resistance, a fingerprint scanner, a heart rate sensor, an IR blaster, NFC, and USB 3.0. The 2800 mAh battery is removable, which adds flexibility that later premium phones often dropped, and the handset uses a single Micro-SIM with 4G LTE connectivity.
