Galaxy Z Fold2 5G: Full Specifications

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold2 5G takes the idea of a premium large-screen phone and pushes it toward tablet territory with a refined book-style foldable design. Opened up, it centres the experience on a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and ultra-thin glass, while the 6.2-inch outer screen is large enough to handle everyday tasks without unfolding the device. The aluminium frame, glass exterior and Hideaway Hinge give it a more finished feel than an early concept product, even if the format remains notably thick when closed and fairly heavy at 282 g. Inside, Samsung pairs a Snapdragon 865+ chip with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, giving the phone the muscle for multitasking across several apps at once. The camera system includes three 12 MP rear cameras covering wide, ultra-wide and telephoto views, plus separate 10 MP selfie cameras on the cover and inside screen, with video recording up to 4K at 60 fps. A 4,500 mAh dual battery, 25 W wired charging, wireless charging, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Samsung DeX, a nano-SIM plus eSIM setup and stereo speakers round out a device built for users who want one cellular that can shift between phone and mini-tablet roles.

Pros

  • No longer a first-gen phone: The Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G is Samsung’s best folding phone yet. It’s a premium and well built phone with no obvious hardware or software issues, and one that should last you for the next two or three years.
  • Good Battery Life: Samsung is known for devices with great battery life that are also packed with features. The same is true for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2. Its bigger, smoother screen features a variable refresh rate that goes from 11 Hz to 120 Hz to combine power savings with performance. Optimizations like these mean that the Galaxy Z Fold2 achieves all-day battery life despite the bigger form factor.
  • A smartphone and a tablet: The Galaxy Z Fold2 5G is not only a great smartphone - it’s also a great tablet. If you want a foldable device that looks good but is also useful, look nowhere further.

Cons

  • Awkward form factor: When folded, the device is too big (slightly thicker than two phones stacked together) to fit into pockets or carry around comfortably. When unfolded, the device can feel a tad heavy after some time.
  • Very Expensive: At almost $2800 CAD, it’s hard to justify this purchase.
  • No expandable storage: While the the Galaxy Z Fold2 5G comes with 256GB of storage, there’s no way to expand or upgrade its size.
