The ZTE Cymbal 2 is a compact flip phone built around straightforward communication and physical controls rather than a large touch display. Its clamshell design pairs a 2.8-inch main screen with a 1.77-inch external display that can show basic information at a glance, while the keypad and dedicated call controls keep everyday use simple. ZTE also includes practical touches such as an In Case of Emergency shortcut, HD Voice over LTE support, speakerphone, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. For media and basic utilities, the phone offers 4GB of internal storage, support for a microSD card up to 32GB, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, music and video playback, FM radio and a removable 1600 mAh battery rated for long standby and talk time. The 2 MP camera handles simple photos and video recording, and the phone uses a nano-SIM for cellular service. At about 109 x 56 x 19.5 mm and roughly 135 g with the battery, the Cymbal 2 stays true to the classic flip-phone format while adding 4G connectivity and a broader set of everyday features than older basic phones.

Cons

  • Camera: Even for a cheap flip phone, the single camera's quality is rather disappointing. Additionally, the camera is placed on the phone's exterior, so it's highly visible when the phone is flipped closed, which takes away from the external screen's sleek design.
  • Display: Like most other flip phones, the Cymbal 2 suffers from having a dim screen that struggles to adjust in bright environments.
