Xp3: Full Specifications

Built for straightforward communication in places where ordinary phones are easily damaged, the Sonim XP3 is a compact flip phone with a notably industrial design. Its thick shell, sealed construction and screw-fastened back emphasize durability, while the large keypad, dedicated Push-to-Talk key and pronounced volume controls are designed for quick use, including with gloves. Inside, it pairs a 2.6-inch 240 x 320 main display with a small 1.08-inch outer screen for basic status information, and runs a proprietary operating system on a Qualcomm MSM8909 quad-core platform with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, plus microSD expansion up to 128 GB. The feature set stays focused on essentials, with a 5 MP rear camera and flash, FM radio, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS and Galileo, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, LTE, VoLTE and VoWiFi. Audio is a major part of the package, with dual microphones for noise cancellation, a front-facing speaker rated at over 100 dB, and a locking 3.5 mm audio connector alongside USB-C and charging pins. A removable 1500 mAh battery is rated for up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 360 hours of standby, and the phone measures 112 x 58 x 27 mm and weighs 195 g.

Cons

  • Camera: We know that the XP3 is a flip phone, but for hundreds of dollars we expected a much sharper camera.
  • Texting: If you text a lot, this phone may not be right for you. Without a QWERTY keyboard, sending a message will take a pretty long time.
