ZTE positioned the Axon as a multimedia focused smartphone with a more refined build than many devices of its generation. Its aluminium back, glass front and distinctive speaker grille styling give it a look that stands apart, while the 5.5 inch IPS display uses a 1920 x 1080 resolution for a sharp and comfortably sized viewing area. Performance is based on a 2.3 GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, paired with Android 5.1.1. Photography is one of the more notable parts of the package. The rear system combines 13 MP and 2 MP cameras with dual LED flash, while the front camera is an 8 MP unit with a wide angle lens. Video recording reaches 4K, with additional 1080p and 720p modes. Audio is another key part of the phone’s identity, with dedicated Hi-Fi hardware, dual microphones and noise reduction features intended to improve both playback and recording. The 3000 mAh battery supports Quick Charge 2.0, and the handset also includes LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a nano SIM slot. At about 170 g and 9.7 mm thick, it is solid in hand without being overly bulky.
