LG G5: Full Specifications

The LG G5 stands out for a design that tried something different from most flagship phones of its time. Its metal body uses a slide-out bottom section that gives access to a removable 2,800 mAh battery, an uncommon feature in a premium model, while the 5.3-inch IPS Quantum display delivers a sharp 2560 x 1440 resolution with always-on functionality. LG paired the phone with a Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB of RAM, giving it the kind of performance that suited demanding apps, video playback, and everyday multitasking well. Storage comes in at 32 GB, with microSD expansion supported. One of the most distinctive parts of the device is its dual rear camera setup, combining a 16 MP standard camera with optical image stabilization and laser autofocus and an 8 MP wide-angle camera that adds a broader perspective than many phones offered at the time. The front camera is 8 MP. The LG G5 also includes USB-C, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and support for LTE networks. At 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7 mm and 159 g, it remains relatively compact, with a slim profile that keeps the hardware feeling light in hand.

Pros

  • Camera: Despite other devices offering stronger cameras with greater specs, the wide angles on the G5's camera were pretty ahead of its time, and makes for great picture potential.
  • Size: The G5 is a great sized phone. The screen is long and slim, but not too slim that your fingers feel cramped while texting.

Cons

  • Design: The G5 has an awkward block along the bottom with the LG logo stamped on it. While this makes it easy to open up the device and take the battery out, it makes the overall feel of the phone quite awkward and unnatural.
  • Headphone jack placement: The G5's headphone jack is at the top right of the phone, which causes wires to drift in front of the screen while texting. Alternatively, it makes it awkward to put in your pocket when headphones are in.
