Sonim XP5S: Full Specifications

Built for demanding job sites and mission critical communications, the Sonim XP5S takes a very different approach from a typical smartphone. This rugged feature phone pairs a compact bar design with a thick protective build, oversized physical keys and dedicated buttons for push-to-talk, speakerphone, volume and SOS functions, making it easier to handle with gloves or in rough conditions. Its 2.64 inch TFT display keeps things simple and durable, with Gorilla Glass protection and a 320 x 432 resolution suited to calls, messages and essential on-device tasks. Inside, the XP5S uses a quad core Snapdragon 427 platform with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, plus microSD expansion up to 128 GB for additional files. A 5 MP rear camera with flash is available for quick documentation in the field, while dual front-facing speakers rated above 100 dB and a three microphone setup with noise cancellation are designed to help conversations cut through loud environments. The removable 3180 mAh battery is rated for up to 25 hours of talk time and up to 21 days of standby, and the phone also supports LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and GLONASS. At 141 x 64 x 23 mm and 260 g, it is unapologetically substantial and purpose built.

Pros

  • Accessories: Sonim offers the SecureAudio Connector in addition to the phone, which ensures loud and clear communication even if you're in a noisy environment.
  • Casing: Although the XP5S isn't technically a flip phone, it comes with a protective case that covers up the display. Users can easily slip the phone out of its casing to enjoy its features.

Cons

  • Heavy duty device: This phone is not for the average consumer. If you don't find yourself in a factory, construction site, or at war, you may be better off with a more affordable device.
  • No headphone jack: Despite its traditional design, the XP5S contains no headphone jack.
