Huawei built the P40 as a compact high-end phone that keeps flagship hardware in a more manageable format. Its 6.1-inch OLED display carries a crisp 2340 x 1080 resolution, while the body stays relatively easy to handle at 148.9 x 71.06 x 8.5 mm and about 175 g. The finish is clean and modern, and the phone also carries an IP53 rating for basic splash and dust resistance. Inside, it uses the Kirin 990 5G platform with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, with support for Huawei NM expansion cards for users who need more room. The camera system remains one of its defining strengths, pairing a 50 MP main sensor with a 16 MP ultra wide and an 8 MP telephoto camera with optical image stabilization, while the 32 MP front camera is joined by an IR camera and can record up to 4K at 60 fps. Huawei also equipped the P40 with a 3800 mAh battery and 22.5 W SuperCharge, along with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, USB-C and dual SIM dual standby support, with configurations that can include eSIM depending on the version.
