Carrytel

I've been with Carrytel for two years and they are by far the worst most unreliable ISP I've ever had (i've tried about half a dozen) and i'm about to cancel my service. In good phases you might only lose your connection once a week for a few minutes which is a sacrifice you might be willing to make considering their prices. But every year there will be a bad phase when it will drop constantly (I'm writing this during one of those, for the past 9 days internet has dropped anything from 2 times a day to about 12, i wish i could say this is the first time this has happened but it isn't) for 4 to 5 minutes and at last once a year the service will be offline permanently unless you call them after which they will refer you to bell who will, of course, be able to actually fix your issue in about a minute (so their customer service is useless, worse, it's a waste of your time, just send me to bell right away). Again for the price I can take the occasional weekly drop, but on days like today when it's constant i mean at this point you might as well consider you DONT have the internet so what am i paying for. It's maddening. And ftr...i'm in downtown Montreal. Not in some remote location. Do not waste your time with this provider.

Carrytel is a good budget ISP. They are stable, reliable and at a decent price. Customer service is average with limited hours, which can be an issue if service outages occur outside 10am-7pm EST. Some plans are limited to use with a Hitron CGN3U modem/router combo that they require to be purchased for 59$. Use of your own compatible modem is limited to certain plans which would require me personally to pay over 30% more monthly, sign a new 1 year contract, and require a 29$ charge for the opportunity. The Hitron CGN3U modem is absolutely terrible and makes the ISP service worse with intermittent latency issues. Manual DNS, keyword filtering, and router level VPN services do not work on Hitrons CGN3U software despite the GUI having these options. Latency issues persist after bridging the modem to a router capable of performing these basic networking tasks that I use personally for parental controls. If Carrytel allowed the use of its supported Technicolor TC4400 modem on all plans, I would not be shopping around for a different ISP and they would have kept me as a customer.

The biggest issue is they store your card details and charge it without warning. Remove your details and you get no service. Customer Service is 0, they take you through a script each time without checking notes plus they are not open at peak times. You also get billed to return their faulty equipment. Pay a little more for decent service and dont sign up in the first place!
